Zurich to Host "Ma' Rosa" Charity Screening with Acclaimed Director Brillante Mendoza in Collaboration with Mondejar Gallery
Zurich, Switzerland – The M. Mondejar Steiner Foundation, in collaboration with Mondejar Gallery, will hold its inaugural annual film benefit event on May 24, 2017, featuring a screening of the internationally acclaimed Filipino film Ma' Rosa by Cannes Best Director winner Brillante Mendoza. The screening will take place at Arthouse Cinema Alba in Zurich, followed by dinner and a silent auction at Commihalle restaurant. Proceeds from the event will support survivors of Supertyphoon Haiyan in Tacloban City, Philippines.The evening begins with a 6:00 PM screening of Ma' Rosa, a powerful social commentary on the Philippine drug war. The film delves into the gritty realities of family, survival, and resilience, providing a profound perspective on contemporary issues. Director Brillante Mendoza will join the event for an exclusive Q&A session, offering audiences rare insights into his creative process and the film’s message.
Following the screening, guests will proceed to Commihalle for a dinner starting at 8:30 PM, featuring introductions of major sponsors, a presentation of the Foundation’s accomplishments, and a raffle draw.
A Cause Rooted in Tragedy and Hope
The benefit is part of a broader advocacy initiated by the M. Mondejar Steiner Foundation in the aftermath of Supertyphoon Haiyan, which devastated Tacloban City in 2013, claiming approximately 10,000 lives. Proceeds will fund livelihood projects, such as providing fishing boats for indigent families, and education programs that aim to bring underprivileged children back to school.
Foundation President Minerva Mondejar Steiner highlights the importance of cultural exchange through art, stating, "This event not only supports our advocacies but also strengthens ties between Switzerland and the Philippines, fostering mutual understanding through powerful artistic narratives."
