"Everything in Buddha at Michi Steiner"
27 May 2011 Zurich, Switzerland
LUXURY ART → The young star of the art scene, Nikolai Winter, showcases his sculptures in Zurich.
He grew up in the world of wealth and now plays with it in his art: 23-year-old emerging artist Nikolai Winter presented his works yesterday at the "Mondejar Gallery" in front of director Michael Steiner and his wife Minerva. His sculptures –
Luxury Goods – are ironic yet respectful. Steiner himself is a big fan of Winter's art.
"The transformation of a Rolls Royce into Buddha"
"Ultimately, I have to laugh at myself," says Steiner. And that fits: The highlight of the exhibition is the transformation of a Rolls Royce and the religious figure of Buddha.
In over 800 hours of craftsmanship, the former HSG student Nikolai Winter welded the sculpture together – a process that took two years. "I had to laugh myself, because you never really know if you're doing it right," says Winter, who began his artistic career after starting a degree in art history and finance.
Nikolai Winter already has many fans.
For the opening, prominent guests like Springli CEO Ernst Tanner appeared with his wife and real estate investor Oliver Wolfensberger, as well as art mentor Beat Curti. On the other hand, actor Joel Basman returned from Baden with a raised finger in front of the sculpture. Everything handcrafted.
